We’re absolutely thrilled to share some incredible news about the significant advancements we’ve made here at Angels’ Care Centre in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal. Our commitment to providing quality and impactful facilities and programs for the children we serve has never been stronger, and our recent upgrades are a testament to that dedication!
A Foundation for Growth: 2023 Developments
2023 was a monumental year for us. We proudly unveiled our state-of-the-art Early Childhood Development Centre, providing our youngest beneficiaries with a stimulating and safe environment to learn and grow. Alongside this, we thoroughly renovated our Health Care Centre, which now includes an essential emergency overnight facility. These crucial upgrades have profoundly enhanced our capacity to offer comprehensive care when it’s needed most.
The Heart of Our Community: The Transformed Community Hall
Building on the momentum of 2023, 2024 saw a truly remarkable transformation! The Old Agricultural Hall has been revitalized into the vibrant Angels’ Care Centre Community Hall. This dynamic new space is so much more than just a building; it’s a bustling hub designed to nurture every aspect of a child’s development and strengthen community bonds.
The Hall now provides dedicated after-school facilities for both high school and primary school students, offering them a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment to learn, grow, and thrive. We’re especially excited to share that our high school students are now receiving top-quality tutoring in Maths, English, Science, and Economics, thanks to our partnership with the Howick Tutoring Centre. This outsourcing ensures they benefit from expert teachers and the best possible academic support.
A major focus of our after-school programme is sport, offering soccer and netball to the children in our care. We know that most no-fee government schools don’t have the resources to offer these crucial activities, so we’re proud to fill that gap. Our teams, proudly named ‘African Angels,’ participate in league matches on the weekends, and we provide them with a coach, equipment, and full kits!
Beyond academics and sport, the Community Hall is a versatile space where we host our essential support groups, engaging holiday programmes, and vital community outreach drives, such as our recent Winter Warmth Drive. It also houses a central kitchen for our vital nutritional programs, ensuring that children receive the nourishment they need to flourish. Plus, with the new The Hall Café open to the public, the Hall is truly enhancing its role as a central community gathering point.
These new facilities have dramatically expanded our capacity to offer comprehensive after-school programming that addresses academic needs, fosters creativity, promotes essential life skills, empowers children, ensures their nutritional needs are met, and strengthens crucial community ties.
Embracing a Sustainable Future
Our vision for the future isn’t just about expanding our reach, but also about ensuring sustainability. We’re proud to announce that we’ve embraced green energy by installing solar panels and battery storage at all our facilities. This significant step ensures reliable power for all our programs, reduces our environmental impact, and allows us to focus even more intently on our core mission without interruption.
These exciting developments are a testament to the unwavering support of our community and partners. We believe these enhanced facilities will create even greater opportunities for the vulnerable children and families who rely on us, helping us to continue transforming lives by inspiring hope, enabling healing, and nurturing potential.
Stay tuned for more updates on the wonderful activities happening in our new spaces!
